Reminds me of Ians Wollemi trip, And then I lost the official track and needed to find my own route though the final cliff line. Definitely one to put on your list.

KayZed on the AAWT
The Australian Alps Walking Track, AAWT, stretches from Walhalla, 200k east of Melbourne to Tharwa, 30k from Canberra. A total distance of 680k odd and elevation +/- 30,000m
Why? Because it was there :)
