Made a good call
last night to stay on the ridge as the track down this morning was
unmarked and the bush bash took 2hrs for just 3k. Very pleasant flat
at the bottom. Having climbed back up the other side found I was on a
major dirt road and had one logging truck pull up to check I was ok.
My presence was immediately notified over the radio to all other
trucks. The next track down was again badly overgrown but this time
clearly marked with ribbon, so the way was obvious if a little slow.
Buenba Flat is something to see. A huge treeless flat gave way to a
magic narrow section 1.5k long then another large flat again. 5k in
all. The climb to Johnnies Top is epic and is a candidate for 3
peaks. 750m in 6k. Johnnies is a great campsite, grassy flat and
incredibly a 2000l water tank. Way to go Vicparks! I love the
warning - "rain water, not for drinking". What the hell are we to do
with it then? Have a bath?
