Day 6 - 4 Mile Hut to O'Keefes Hut

42k +1050m -950m

A marathon day literally.

I have arranged to meet Clare for the w/e in Thredbo, so need to get a hoof along. It has blown hard the last 24hrs. Strong to gale was the forecast and they got it right. It rained lightly last night but fortunately cleared the minute I set off this morning, and I had great weather albeit cold with the wind chill. Checked out an old mine seldom visited which has all sorts of equipment lying around and the mine shaft into the hill was open. I am at the hut pictured, O'Keefes, which is a phoenix risen from the ashes of 2003. The official opening is later this month so I am about the 8th entry in the logbook. I have a nice fire going while the wind howls outside. They have done a great job and even have wallpaper of 1936 newspapers. Fun to read.
